BET's 2019 “lyricist of the year” J. Cole has just earned 10 Recording Industry Association certifications for his 4th studio album, 4 Your Eyez Only. Riding the same wave that he did in 2014 with Forrest Hills Drive, Cole sold over 1 million copies of his latest album with no other featured artists.
According to the RIAA, an album or single must sell 500,000 units to be certified Gold and 1 million units to be certified Platinum. The RIAA also began counting digital streams and downloads toward just over 4 years ago.
Released in December 2016, the album debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 and all 10 songs debuted in the top 40 on Billboard 100. This latest nod makes every song on the album certified including Neighbors, which is certified Double Platinum. The album surpassed the gold mark within a month of it's release and reached Platinum status by April 2017, just days before the HBO documentary was released under the same name.
North Carolina's own Jermaine Cole took the album on tour in June of 2017 performing for 40 crowds in the U.S. and another 17 in Europe. Several Dreamville artists joined Cole on tour including Ari Lennox and Anderson Paak.
